Access to health care in Humla
Campaign objectives

Assess in treatments and made medicines affordable for all Humla’s population

Description

In order to provide access to basic health services to the population and improve their living conditions, Healt Us Nepal created a Medical center in Simikot , a village in the middle of the Himalayas. It is a very impoverished area, so remote and abrupt. There are no roads. Usual access is by aeroplane,   when the weather allows it or 5 journeys walking.

A doctor, a nurse and a pharmacy assistant, carries out consultations in the center, but also visits at home those who cannot reach the center. In addition, they run health actions in remote villages to prevent diseases from becoming complicated, such as antiparasitic treatments and children vaccinations.

Through the Pharmacy it is possible to universalizing access to medicines and accompanying the patients through all the treatment and administrating good quality meds. And the medical center allows to complement the public health center, and give basic treatments, track patients and diseases, and promote hygienic habits focusing in younger generations. The NGO subsidizes between 40 and 50% of the price of the medicine. Diagnostic and medical support work is always free.
