The main objective is to consolidate a stable and safe educational environment by expanding the foundation’s infrastructure, thereby ensuring access to education for out-of-school girls and helping to break the cycle of poverty and exclusion.
The Fundación Amigos de Rimkieta (FAR) works intensively in one of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, a country that ranks among the lowest in the Human Development Index. The organization is dedicated to transforming the reality of the most vulnerable groups and has already enabled 1,776 girls to access an education that allows them to build a different future.
This project arises from the critical need for a suitable physical space for learning. Until now, the training program did not have its own facilities, which limited its reach and stability. For this reason, FAR has promoted the construction of a new floor above the existing preschool classrooms, creating an environment specifically designed for teaching and for monitoring the students’ progress.
Beyond the bricks, this new space is a tool for social transformation. By providing a stable and safe environment, girls are given the opportunity to reclaim their childhood and receive the education they need to make decisions about their own lives, moving them away from roles of servitude and preventing situations such as forced marriage.
Construction and equipping of a new floor dedicated to training, built on top of the current “maternelle” (preschool) facilities.
Creation of a coordination space through a new office for the team responsible for the educational and social monitoring of the girls.
Provision of a safe learning environment that keeps the girls away from domestic chores and child labor during school hours.
Personalized support for girls in situations of extreme vulnerability to ensure their continued participation in the education system.
The direct beneficiaries are girls in situations of extreme vulnerability in Rimkieta, many of them orphans, abandoned, or living in conditions of severe family poverty, who have been placed with foster families. These are minors who, prior to the project, were exclusively engaged in cooking, caring for other children, or street vending.
