Decrease hunger in New York City and improve the nutritional security of its inhabitants.
From ending poverty and restoring the middle class to slashing the high costs of health care, every major national goal is directly linked to ending hunger in the United States. Hungry workers can’t work. Hungry seniors can’t stay independent. Hungry children can’t learn. And because junk food is cheaper than healthy food, food insecurity is fueling the nation’s obesity crisis. According to the Center for American Progress, hunger costs the U.S. economy $167.5 billion per year.
Of the 41 million American suffering from food insecurity, approximately 1.2 million lives in New York city. Nearly one in seven city residents, including one in five children and one in ten working adults can’t always afford enough food, and many do not know where to find help. Through this project, Hunger free America will connect hungry and food insecure Americans to all available resources.
For more than a decade, Hunger Free America has been assisting families who struggle against hunger, making it easier for them to obtain food and improving their nutritional security.
