We know that communities are more peaceful, safe and prosperous when women are treated equally with men. We know that change can take a long time and that there are periods of regression but we are committed to getting the job done, step by step, case by case. The repeal, change and implementation of law is one the most powerful routes to achieving gender equality.

Equality Now is dedicated to creating a more just world where women and girls have the same rights as men and boys. Our international network of lawyers, activists, and supporters hold governments responsible for ending legal inequality, sex trafficking, sexual violence and harmful practices, such as female genital mutilation (FGM) and “child marriage”.

Focus on individual cases that are important for a larger cause, through:

-Change gender discriminatory laws by taking carefully-selected cases to court and combining legal advocacy with strategic litigation 
-Influence policy makers to strengthen human rights laws and mechanisms
-Hold governments accountable to international human rights law and standards
-Elevate local advocacy to regional and international levels
-Build partnerships with local activists, organizations, and coalitions that are most familiar with the challenges and solutions in their particular communities
-Inspire the public and the media to take action against human rights abuses
